Ron Durling by Ron Durling Jr, Son
FTG2(SS) Ron Durling, Sr., passed away on February 22, 2009. He started out as a skimmer, serving aboard a Sumner-class DD and a Dealey-class DE, before seeing the light and joining the submarine force. He served aboard the Gudgeon (SS-567) before leaving the Navy and joining the San Bernardino County (California) Sheriff's Department, where he retired in 1992 as a Sergeant. In his retirement, he became active with USSVI, joining USSVI's LA-Pasadena and Cyberspace Base. Later, he became a Plank Owner of the USSVI Bonefish Base. The Bonefish Base has an Eternal Patrol page dedicated to Dad on BonefishBase.org. Dad leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Cynthia, as well as a son, Ron, Jr., and daughter, Teresa, his dad, Carl (also a navy vet) and brother Steve (also a retired deputy sheriff). He also leaves six grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. [posted Mar 2009]
