At random: “What wordy praise can one give such men as these; men who … follow unhesitatingly when in the vicinity of minefields so long as there is the possibility of targets … Men who flinch not with the fathometer ticking off two fathoms beneath the keel … Men who will fight to the last bullet and then start throwing the empty shell cases. These are submariners.” - Eugene Fluckey in his final war patrol report aboard USS Barb
Hope your Thanksgiving was as nice as mine.

My oldest grandson Josh (remember him, Blue?) drove me to Newcastle, Wyoming for Thanksgiving with his sister and family. I got to spend several hours with my 'great grands;' 8 year old Garrett and 3 year olds twins Marshall and Kendra. I even ate at the 'kids table.'

Newcastle is about 100 miles from Rapid City, so I don't get to see this family that often. Kendra took my hand when we first arrived and 'helped' me up the six or seven steps from the garage to the house. She entertained me at dinner with three-year-old chatter. Later I stood in line at the bathroom door because Marshall had to 'go potty,' and he got there a milisecond before I did.' These two really don't know me well at all. They were born after Heather (granddaughter) and Troy moved to Newcastle. Yes, there are two Troys in our family...my son and my grand-son-in-law.

Blue might be interested in Josh's new life. He has always worked, but at 'job jobs,' with no definite goal in view. Now, he's very excited about his future plans. He has been working at our local hospital as an orderly (mostly in the surgery area), but he's actually also going to school. He's aiming for a two-year nursing degree. This is a Registered Nurse. He will then get a job, probably at the hospital while he finishes the four-year degree. Two years is called an Associate Degree, while four years is a Bachelor's degree. Then his ambitious plan is to go for his Masters in Anesthesiology...a 'gas-passer,' This will take a few years, not sure how he has it worked out yet. but Josh is not a new high school graduate. He's thirty-four years old.

I hope he sticks to his plan. He has descended from a health-care-provider family. I worked as a nurse in OB-Gyn for 18 years, and his mother (my daughter Cathy) is still working as a Radiology Technologist (X-Ray Tech).

The board is kinda quiet today. Guess everyone is either recovering from Thanksgiving or doing their 'Black Friday' shopping .

Onward to Christmas. Guess I'll spend tomorrow composing a Christmas letter.

'Bye now,

Cora

It's so wonderful when Thanksgiving can be "family time"! I'm happy Cora that you had this experience as well. Ours was great too!

Speaking of "Family time"
Yeah,you've seen it before,but it's time.
Subject: Thanksgiving,a rite of passage

Of all the holidays,in my family,Thanksgiving was the most memorable.
It was the only one when the whole clan(Aunts,Uncles,Grammas,Grampas,Neices Nephews.Inlaws & Outlaws all congregated at the home of whitchever relative had
the biggest house with the most room.
The family was always separated into three distinct groups, the women who spent the entire day in the kitchen, the adult men who stayed in the den watching football games &drinking beer,& THE KIDS who were not by any means, allowed in either of the afore mentioned places.Even at meal time these creatures were relegated to "the kids table"
My most memorable Thanksgiving was comming home on leave after a couple of years in the Navy.I was ordered not to show up unless I wore my"sailor suit".
When I arrived at the same home inhabited by the same people as in many years before,Iwas greeted as a new person.
No longer was I directed to the "kid's room".I was invited to the "inner sanctum",
a smoke filled room where football was watched, adult subjects were discussed, and the women only entered occasionally to replenish the supply of beer & munchies.
If you ventured out of that room, you were likely to run into aunt Maggie who would ask"How do you like being in the ARMY?,or Oh look,Paul's got his WINGS".
When dinner was served,I was seated ,for the first time,at the adult table.
I had finally arrived.

We are glad for you Cora. Grandkids sure are special no matter what their age but the little ones really know genuine love.
