At random: Traditionally, United States submarines have been named after fish and other marine creatures. One exception was the Navy's first submarine HOLLAND which was named after its inventor, John Philip Holland. Today, ballistic missile submarines are named for famous American patriots, with the newest class, the OHIO class, named after states. The LOS ANGELES class of attack submarines are named for United States cities. The nations news class of submarine, the Virginia class, is also named for US States, making them the capital ships of the navy.

Subject: Eternal Patrol Report

The past few weeks Iv'e been trying to gather information to submit to Charles Hinman of Bowfin Museum and who did the r & d for the "On Eternal Patrol" web page, about the RMC(SS) who was killed on USS Bugara (SS-331) in the summer of 1956 while underway between San Diego and San Francisco. The only other person I have been able to contact who remenbers the incident was the former CO at the time who remembers the same details as I do. He's not sure and I'm fairly certain the Chiefs name was Rosecrans.

Does anyone know where/who to contact with such scant information?

Dave, if you have not already done so, go to http://www.decklog.com/ss-331.asp and click the CREW LIST button.  Click the Member Login button (use your ussvi code) then click custom search.  Click on the box for 1956, then submit search.  It will return the names and contact info for twelve men who were aboard at that time.  Maybe there is someone on that list you have not tried yet.  Good Luck!
