WISE .. .. .. LCDR Robert ("Bob") F. Wise USN passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025 in Cary, NC. He was 64 years old. Robert was born in Annapolis, MD and was the oldest son of Frederick and Constance Wise. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1983 with a BS in Political Science, then joined the nuclear submarine force on the USS Plunger, an attack submarine based in San Diego, CA. While serving there, he met his wife, Rebecca Walker, and they were married in 1987. He served on the Plunger and then at FITCPAC as an anti-submarine warfare intelligence officer. After nine years of honorable service, he attended Kellogg Business School (Northwestern University) in Evanston, IL, where he graduated with a Masters in Manufacturing Management degree in 1992. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars and a Navy Achievement Medal, among others. Starting in 1992, Bob worked as a Process Engineer for Merck & Co. Pharmaceuticals in Wilson, NC, where he lived with Rebecca and son, Matthew. In 2021 he and Rebecca moved to Cary, NC. Bob is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and son, Matthew (Pamela); brothers Steve and David; sisters Beth and Christi; and step-mother Sharon. He was predeceased by his mother and father. Bob was known for his positive energy, love of adventure, and laid-back personality. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. ROZAN .. .. .. Timothy F. Rozan, 60, of Medinah Circle, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 9, 2025, at his residence. He was born in New York, N.Y., a son of Gerald and Sharon (Pryor) Rozan. He graduated from John Hopkins undergrad and Yale School of Forestry with a Ph.D. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1982-1988 on aircraft carriers and a nuclear submarine. He co-founded the Ontario Hockey Academy and had a teaching career at University of Maine, Augusta, Bath Iron Works and the Maine prison system. His passions were his children, his pets, fishing, current events, physical fitness and sports. He will live in the hearts of his family forever. 
He is survived by his mother, Sharon Liebowitz and his stepdad, Michael Liebowitz; domestic partner, Sandra Cannon; his children, Valeria, Eugene, Caroline, Kaylee and Devin; brother, Jonathan Rozan and his wife Elle. 
Services are pending.


GALBRAITH .. .. .. Commander "Buzz" Galbraith, USN (Ret.), of Bluffton, SC, passed away on 29 January 2025, after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for several years.
Born in Pittsburg, PA, on 13 May 1939 to Doloris (Fourquer) and Elmer Joseph Galbraith Sr., he and his brother, Jim, grew up in Pennsauken, NJ. At Camden Catholic High School, he played football, participated in many school clubs, was an honor student and graduated as valedictorian in 1957. He received appointments to both the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy, as well as an offer from Villanova University. He chose the Naval Academy.
At Annapolis, he excelled both academically and in extra-curricular activities, including football, glee club and choir. He had the honor of making the Superintendent's List many semesters and he was known for helping fellow classmates with their challenges in school.
Upon graduation, he married Helen Casselman and entered the nuclear submarine force. He served aboard Barracuda, then attended Naval Nuclear Power School and Nuclear Propulsion Operator School (1964-1965) under the command of Admiral Hyman Rickover. He went on to serve on several submarines including Queenfish, Gato, Stonewall Jackson (as XO), and finally as the well-loved skipper of Ray (SSN-653) (1976-1980).
After his distinguished and decorated service in the U.S. Navy, he embarked on a civilian career as part of the teams for the nuclear plants for WPPSS (Washington Public Power Supply System) in Satsop, WA; Hope Creek, New Jersey; and then as part of the team at INPO (Institute of Nuclear Power Operations); until retiring in 2009.
Buzz was a great man, highly accomplished and intelligent, who positively impacted the lives of so many who had the honor of knowing him.
Buzz loved his three children (who all followed in his footsteps and served in the U.S. Navy), his wife, Helen, and their horses and dogs. He loved spending time with family; watching the Phillies and any number of other football teams; enjoyed talking about his experiences in the Navy; and was devoted to his Catholic faith throughout his entire life.
Buzz is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen; daughter, Kathleen of Peterborough NH; son, Patrick of Sharon, NH; and his extended family who adore him. He was predeceased by his son, Lawrence.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Gregory the Great in Bluffton, SC, with interment with full honors at Beaufort National Cemetery at a date to be determined.


MILLER .. .. .. James (Jim) Roy Miller, 82 of Appleton, passed away with his loving family at his side on February 10, 2025.
Jim was born to the late Elmer F. and Mary F. (Weisenberger) Miller on March 26, 1942, in Wausau.
As a child Jim loved to tinker with radios and electronics taking them apart to see how they worked and put them back together. He attended St. Anne and Newman Highschool through graduation. His childhood buddies included Richard Dehnel (Dicky) and Fred Olds.
After graduation Jim headed to Navy schooling, while in school he also worked on the USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN 641) as a Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator-Reactor Controller and Fleet Ballistic Missile Weapons Systems Personnel. He then went on to the U.S. Naval Submarine School and the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut. Jim received many achievement awards, National Defense Service Medal, and the First Good Conduct Award for a period ending August 15, 1965. After his time in the military, he worked at Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant as a Control Operator until retirement.
When Jim wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time fishing on Lake Michigan for Salmon and Trout, then smoking them. He was in many pool leagues, enjoyed taking walks, but most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, family and friends when he move back home. He lived in Wausau, WI, Mesa, AZ, Appleton, WI and Mishicot, WI to name a few.
He is survived by his children Corrine Miller, Laurie Miller, grandchildren, Melissa (Aaron) Wegner, Kaylyn Hansen, Curtis Kaas, Ryan Hansen Nathan (Isabella) Verhyen and 7 great grandchildren, siblings, Shirley Mackoway, Susie (Donnie) Schmidt and Judi (Joe) Kressel.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Visitation for family and friends will start at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. followed with burial at Restlawn Cemetery and full Military Honors.


KNUDSEN .. .. .. Michael “Joe” Knudsen, age 55, unexpectedly passed away on February 8, 2025, at his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Joe was the 4th child born to the late Earl “Bud” and Eileen Knudsen on August 2, 1969. He was raised in his hometown of Pisgah, Iowa and graduated from West Harrison High School in 1987. After high school, Joe joined the United States Navy, sailing aboard a submarine named the U.S.S. Will Rodgers. After his service, Joe became an IT professional for First Data Corporation. 

Joe was a devoted father and a football fanatic. He was a shareholder of the Green Bay Packers football team. Joe was a caring and honest man who was never afraid to be himself, he will be deeply missed by all that knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Knudsen. 


KMIEC .. .. .. Stephen C. Kmiec, 85, of Wheaton, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. He was born on June 30, 1939, in Bono, Ohio, to Steven and Jane Kmiec.
A proud graduate of Rogers High School in Toledo, Stephen served in the U.S. Navy for five years. He had the honor of traveling the world aboard the USS George Washington, the first Polaris Naval Submarine.
After his time in the Navy, Stephen returned to Ohio, where he met his beloved wife while they worked together. In 1963, he began a long career with AT&T, which brought him and his family to Wheaton, Illinois, where he worked for 34 and a half years before retiring in 1997.
Stephen was known for his great sense of humor. A true jokester, he loved making people laugh with funny noises and his spirited dancing. His passion for gardening was unmatched, and he took great pride in cultivating a magical garden that provided food and joy for his family and friends for many years.
Stephen’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Wynscape for the exceptional care he received, as well as to Emily APRN and the doctors and nursing staff on the 3rd floor at Central DuPage Hospital for their dedicated support during his final days.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary; his children Stephen R. (Robin) Kmiec, Tim (Sylvia) Kmiec and Tonya (Andy) Miller; his grandchildren Vincent (Gina), Gianna, Victoria, Olivia, Emily, Kylie and Alexandra; his great-grandchildren Beckham & Kobe. Also survived by numerous nieces & nephews and his faithful canine companion, Piper.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Carolyn (Bob) Westfall & Joyce Gehring
A memorial gathering will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Thursday, April 10th from 2:00pm until a time of sharing at 5:00pm. Interment with Military Honors will be held privately at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.

Buzz Galbraith was my CO on USS Ray SSN653 for most of my time aboard.  The man had tremendous "presence" and quiet strength.  He has been my role model in all things leadership-related.  Most of us didn't know he was ill until very recently - I was looking forward to seeing him at the next reunion but sadly that won't happen.
