The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

COMPTON .. .. .. Robert Compton, 79, died at his home in Barton on August 30, 2024. He was born in Hamburg, New Jersey, on March 22, 1945, to Nathan and Eleanor Compton.
Bob proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the submarine USS Thomas Jefferson. Bob was a friend to all, kind and humble. He was a gifted artist, selling some of his paintings but mostly he gave them to family and friends. Bob loved to go on rides; stopping for breakfast at Martha’s Diner was one of his favorites. Folks may remember him when they did their recycling in Barton, where he worked until his retirement.
Bob is survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Compton and cousins Sonny Trucott, who he would visit every day for coffee, niece Adrienne Hutchin and family, cousin Helen Perron of East Hampton, Connecticut, niece Cheryl Daniels, nephew Ricky Lewis, and good friend David Pund, nephew Alvin Simard and his wife, Paulette, Joe Simard and his family, very special family and caregivers Jennifer and AJ Simard, and Ed Young who cared for him during his last weeks at home. Bob will be missed very much. May God take good care of him. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

CAMPISI .. .. .. Salvador Vincent Campisi Sr. went to be with the Lord on September 17th, 2024. Salvador was born July 21st, 1934, in Birmingham, AL to Anthony and Anne Campisi. He attended Birmingham Southern and served in the Navy working on submarines during the Korean War. During the time he served, he received a medal for his service. Sal married the love of his life, Jean in 1958 and started his career in the automobile business in 1960. Starting as a salesman in Birmingham, he soon after was given the opportunity to accomplish his dream of owning his own dealership. His first dealership was in Sylacauga, AL which he owned with his brother for 5 years. While honeymooning with his wife in Florida, he had a vision of moving there. He soon after found a dealership in Lakeland, FL. Starting with Pontiac and Honda, he began to grow the Regal Automotive Group that is still present in Lakeland today. During his years in Lakeland, he served on several boards, including LADA, Knights of Columbus, and the Resurrection Parish Council. He was thoroughly philanthropic to many local charities including Catholic Charities, Talbot House, Resurrection Catholic Church, and others. Sal had a heart for his community and spent his life investing back what he was blessed with. His faith was the pillar of his life, and he lived it out every day. Sal was a respected member of the community and a legend in the automobile business world. His legacy lives on in the employees and customers that he served throughout his life. He loved his family dearly. He leaves behind his wife Jean of 66 years, his brother Nick (Carolyn) and his 5 children, Anne (Randy), Ginger (Rick), Jeanie, Sal (Sandra), and Renee. He also had 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Anthony and Anne, and brother Jarome. A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 19th from 5-7 PM at Heath Funeral Chapel.

EWOLT .. .. .. Donald Ewoldt lived a charmed life for 100 years. He knew it and was grateful for it. Until he fell at home two weeks ago, the centenarian lived in the same house since 1959. He drove his car daily and played sheepshead and pitch card games at the American Legion and Platt Deutsche four days a week. He passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Tiffany Square.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island followed by interment and lunch. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.
He served in the U. S. Navy as a submariner from 1943-1946 because "I didn't want to jump out of an airplane or sleep in a mud hole," he told his family. When the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan, he was in a sub off the coast of Kyushu.
He joined Kernan's Shoe Co. in downtown Grand Island after the Navy. Customers came to depend on him for memorizing their shoe size and pre-selecting styles they might like. In 1992, he told his longtime colleague Bob Dryer that he was retiring. Dryer decided to join him. When the owners heard, they decided to close the store rather than continue without their star salesmen.
As a young businessman, he participated in the Jaycees, Hall Country Red Cross, Community Chest United Way, the Downtown Retail Community Council and the Chamber of Commerce Presidents Club.
Gifted as a storyteller with razor-sharp wit, he told his family he would like to be remembered "as a guy who stayed out of jail."
How lucky we were to know someone who makes goodbyes so hard, to paraphrase author A.A. Milne.
He is survived by his four children; Michael (Janet) and Thomas in Grand Island, Linda Stull of Lincoln and John in Minneapolis; six grandchildren; Bryan, Julie Heimes (Steve), Tanya, Stephanie Sand (Andy), Spencer Stull (Maddie), and John Stull; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hulda (Wrage), brothers, Virgil and Gerald; and his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia (Engel).

MURPHY .. .. .. James Patrick Murphy left us on September 13, 2024.
Born in Lincolndale, NY in 1930, he grew up in Queens, NY with four brothers and one sister. In 1948, Jim enlisted in the Naval Submarine Service where he served until being honorably discharged in 1954.
He married his lovely wife, Dorothy Grundstrom on September 30, 1956 and they remained happily married for nearly 68 years – a milestone very few couples have ever achieved.
Together, Jim and Dottie raised their family of five children on Long Island until 1983, when they followed their dreams and relocated to San Diego where they lived for nearly 20 years.
During their time on Long Island, the children attended St. Anne's School in Brentwood, where Jim served for many years on the School Board and was responsible for the development of the new Church and School building.
In 2002, while visiting Central Florida, they discovered The Villages and moved to Spanish Springs, where they currently still reside. Jim was an avid golfer, loved swimming, playing cards and spending time at the beach with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife Dottie, daughter Susan (Jack), and sons Jimmy (Maryanne), Mark (Cathy) and David. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by the recent passing of his son, William Keith Murphy, on August 16, 2024 – a loss that has touched many lives.
Words cannot express how much Jim will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Mass will be held Monday, October 7, 2024 8:30 AM at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lady Lake, FL. Following the mass, the US Navy will render honors at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 11:00 AM.
