I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. 

HOUSE .. .. .. James Wesley Lee House Age 83, of Dayton, passed away July 27, 2009 in Carson City, Nevada. James was born November 9, 1925 to Jesse Lee House and Alice Melindia Fenison, in Johnsville, Arkansas. He served his country in the Navy from 1943 to 1954. He served for four years during World War II in the South Pacific. He later served on a submarine for two years during the Korean conflict. James enjoyed fishing and gardening. He will always be remembered for being willing to lend a helping hand. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Alice House, and sisters, Lois Garrison of Reno, Nevada and Ruth Glenn of Coos Bay, Oregon. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jackie; his sons, Steve and wife Sharon of Reno, NV and Jim and wife Diana of Dayton, NV; grandchildren, Don, Steve, Jeff, Amanda, Angela and Shane and seven great-grandchildren, as well as his favorite pet, “Foxy”. He is also survived by brothers, Ken House of Cloverdale, CA and Jesse House of Santa Rosa, CA and his sister Lin Cadd of Santa Rosa.

SLACK .. .. .. William “Bill” A. Slack, 96, died on Friday, May 29, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1930, in Dover, NJ, and lived in Somerville, NJ (Bridgwater Township) after his marriage to Doris Slack on August 12, 1955. They moved to Palm Beach Gardens, FL in 1970, then moved to Jupiter in 1977. They had made several more moves to Olathe, Kansas; Ackworth, Georgia; Punta Gorda, FL; and final move to Okeechobee, FL in 2003. He was a member of the Pluckemin Presbyterial Church in Pluckemin, NJ. William was a member of Big Lake VFW in Okeechobee, FL and had been a member of the Elks Club in Jupiter, FL and the Moose Lodge in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and enjoyed going to Brighton Casino and playing Bingo.
William served in the U.S. Navy, as a Fire Control Tech (FTU3) from 1948 to 1955 during the Korean War. He was responsible for sonar and torpedo data computer maintenance and operation. His two tours in the U.S. Navy were spent mostly in submarine service (USS Argonaut and USS Grouper) and remained in the U.S. Navy Reserve until July 1961 as an Instructor. He married Doris in August 1955 when he left the Navy taking a job as an Engineering Aid at Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, NJ January 1955 to September 1955 leaving to take a job with New Jersey Bell Telephone Co., Westfield, NJ from September 1955 to July 1966. He was hired at an entrance level position working in the frame and switch room moving up to Supervisor of Network Services. William worked at Precision Systems, Inc from 1966 to 1968 as an Administrative Assistant to the President which required a lot of travel overseas and to California. During this time William also served the community as an elected Bridgewater Township Tax Collector from 1964 to 1969 and was appointed as Treasurer by the Bridgewater Township Committee from 1967 to 1969. He did not seek reelection in 1969 and moved his family to Florida in 1969 for health reasons. William returned to the Bell System in Florida with Southern Bell in West Palm Beach, FL soon becoming Manager of Network Services of the WPB Exchange Area, and Manager of Special Services at the Riviera Beach Special Services SARTS Center until 1978, when he was promoted to Staff Manager at Bell Labs, Holmdel, NJ assigned to systems engineering, and AT&T, Basking Ridge, NJ assigned to systems methods and implementation, Bell System responsibilities (SOPs) until 1983. He retired February 1983 prior to Divestiture. William continued to work for several years for Palm Beach County Communications and was then offered a position with Sprint setting up and certifying their Special Services SARTS Centers which moved them to Olathe, Kansas and then to Ackworth, GA before retiring again after 10 years with Sprint. They settled back in Jupiter for a short time before moving to Punta Gorda, FL, and finally settled in Okeechobee in 2003.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Davis Slack (July 2024); his parents, Robert Eugene Slack and Emma Murtha Slack; his brother, Thomas “Bob” R. Slack; sister, Betty Lou Slack; nephew, Michael Slack; and great-grandson, Matthew Thompson.
He is survived by his son, William D. Slack (Michele) of Palm City, Florida; daughters, Bonnie Slack Lueck (David) of Jacksonville, Florida and Sandra Slack Bilyeu of Okeechobee, Florida; sister, Virginia Slack Miller of Hayes, VA; six grandchildren, Matthew Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Robert Lueck, Megan Guzman, Tommy Slack, and Joele Wargo; fifteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

KOZLOWSKI .. .. .. Walter N. Kozlowski Vet. WWII U.S. Submarine Service. Beloved husband of Alice F. (nee Blaschak) for 57 yrs. Loving father Karen (Patrick) Beck, Sandra Kozlowski (Michael Stattel), Mary (George) Ribikawskis, Lynn (Dino) Vallera, Amy Kozlowski (Joseph Olszewski), Walter R. Kozlowski (Nancy Howard), and the late Paul F. Kozlowski. Proud grandfather of Adam, Dana, Kate, Holly, Christina, Melisa, & Alex.

CHILDS .. .. .. George "Pee Wee" Childs, age 88, of 905 Berkley Street, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 3:16 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2011, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, with his family by his side. George was born on March 19, 1922, in Lacon, Illinois, to George and Pearl B. (Dyson) Childs, Sr. George married the former Priscilla J. Draus on October 16, 1945, in Hartford, Connecticut. The Childs' owned and operated the G&W Supermarket, where George spent many years as the local butcher. George was a member and Past Commander of the Illinois U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII, Past Post Commander of the Walter Guede American Legion Post 593 in Lacon, a member of the American Legion Post 27 in Plymouth, and a member of the Lions Club in Gibson City, Illinois. He was also the Lacon Band Mascot, at the age of two. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, during WWII, as a Torpedoman, First Class. On October 27, 2010, George and his son, John, were privileged to take the Honor Flight for WWII Veterans in Washington, D.C. George's "Bottom Gun" Hat made quite an impression on the other Veterans, where he made many new friends. George is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Priscilla Childs; their two sons, John (Susan) Childs of Plymouth and Bill (Patricia) Childs of Kankakee, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Joshua Childs of La Porte, Indiana, Margaret Smith of Lake Station, Indiana, Kimberly Sherwood of La Porte, Jason Craig of Wyoming, Jennie D. Childs of Chicago, Illinois, Chris G. Childs of Kankakee, Kari L. Childs of Kankakee, and Lisa A. Easton of Las Vegas, Nevada; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Zerkel of Kankakee. George was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Hayward and his brother, James Childs.
