The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

BERG .. .. .. John Archie Berg, 76 of New Sewickley Township passed away peacefully on
Friday, June 13, 2025, at UPMC Passavant - McCandless.
Born in Rochester, Pennsylvania and raised in Monaca, John was a proud
graduate of Monaca High School, class of 1966. His commitment to his country
was evident early on when he entered the U.S. Navy in 1968 during the Vietnam
War, honorably serving for eight years. Stationed in Oahu, Hawaii, John served
as a radio operator aboard ship and on a submarine, experiences that shaped
his resilience and discipline.
While stationed at the submarine base in New London Connecticut, John met
and married the love of his life, Charlene Ann Nicolosi, on October 14, 1972, in
New London, Connecticut. After returning to civilian life in Pennsylvania they
built a life together filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their three
children: Severina, Daniel (Amanda), and Matthew Berg. His legacy continued to
grow with the births of his cherished grandchildren, Corbin and Jeriah Berg.
John's professional life was marked by his dedication as an electrician at Nova
Chemical, where he retired after many years of service. His skills extended to the
family farm, where he was the indispensable 'farm mechanic,' ensuring that all
farm equipment operated smoothly. His work ethic was unmatched, and his
membership with the United Steel Workers and past affiliation with the Masonic
order spoke to his belief in the value of community and brotherhood.
He attended Northway Christian Community Church and later found fellowship at
Grace Community Church in Cranberry Township. His faith was not just a
personal journey but a shared mission with Charlene. For more than a decade,
the couple brought the spirit of the holidays to life at Northway Community
Church by participating and providing horses and livestock for the Christmas and Easter pageants.
A man of diverse interests, John was an avid outdoorsman. He delighted in
hunting and had favorite fishing spots at Moraine State Park and in Canada,
where he enjoyed the serenity of nature. His love for horses was evident as he
exhibited them at the Big Knob Grange Fair, sharing his passion with his
community.
In their retirement years, John and Charlene became adventurers, spending
winters in Florida, exploring the western states in their motorhome, and enjoying
the relaxation of Caribbean cruises. These travels were some of the happiest
times of their lives, filled with discovery and the pleasure of each other's
company.
John is predeceased by his parents, Archie Leonard and Marguerite (Cole) Berg,
and his siblings, Carol Jean Berg, Thomas Berg, and C Bruce Berg. He leaves
behind his beloved wife, Charlene, his children and grandchildren, his sister-
in-law, Donna Berg and several nieces and nephews.

PAQUETTE .. .. .. After a long, brave battle with cancer, Don Paquette of Martinsville, Indiana, and formerly of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home. So many people knew and loved Don for his myriad of accomplishments and roles in his life: a faithful life partner, a father and grandfather who always enjoyed sharing experiences instead of things, a brother sailor on a nuclear submarine, a project engineer with stern focus at Otis Elevator, a stinky hiker the Appalachian trail, a good neighbor and emu wrestler, a joyous private pilot or scuba diver or caver. He helped to develop the National Cave Rescue Commission for the NSS and was active in cave rescue his entire life. He was my domestic partner for 42 years and sent me roses every Valentine’s Day. The Easter Bunny always showed up even when we hiked the AT. He could fix anything around our house or on our vehicles. He also did a lot of woodworking and made many of the pieces in our home: He was especially proud of the full-sized Blackjack table he fashioned and would deal many hands for our friends and family at parties. Even though Don and I met in a cave and we caved, hiked, camped, and canoed together, we also went on lots of cruises and enjoyed all types of music. Don loved Willie Nelson, Beethoven, his children, his friends, and me.

Don touched many lives; he graduated from Bloomington High School in 1965 and from the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School in 1969, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1966 until 1973. He received his Bachelor of General Studies from Indiana University in 1984 and his Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1991. Don worked as the senior facilities engineer for Otis Elevator from 1973 until 1995, as a teacher for Ivy Tech Community College for ten years part-time and for two years full-time, and for Applied Performance Strategies from 1999 until 2019. He was a life member and fellow of the National Speleological Society and National Cave Rescue Coordinator from 1984-1993. He was also an amateur radio operator, WB9TLI.

He is survived by his life partner, Jo Ellen (O’Hair) Kimmel; daughter, Kerri Lynn (Rich Maynard) Jean; son, Christopher Blair (Kimberly) Paquette; grandchildren, Kelsey Lynn (Mitchell) Oard, Cayden Christopher Paquette, Kale Emerson Paquette, and Claire Addison Paquette; great grandchildren, Knox and Nora Oard; stepson, Alex Robert (April Adkins) Kimmel; step grandchildren, Aquene Rose (Rachel) Payne and Joel Andrew Kimmel; and his first wife and the mother of his children, Vicky (Stipp) VanMeter.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald J. Paquette and Minnie L. (Young) Paquette, and his son in-law, Jeffrey Michael Jean.

ECKERT .. .. .. Virginia Beach, VA  –  Navy Captain Thomas R Eckert (Retired USNA), a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was 85 years old.
“Tommy” as called by his mother was born in Jersey City, NJ on February 2, 1940 and grew up in River Edge, NJ with his two brothers George and Carl. Football and baseball were his first loves but he gained a third when he began dating his high school sweetheart, Joan Gatti, at Hackensack High School. Tom attended the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, MD, graduating in 1961 with “Joanie” close by at Goucher College. It was shortly after graduation from USNA that on June 18, 1961 they married and began their 57 years of marriage together building a family, including many relocations thanks to the military, ultimately landing permanently in Virginia Beach. Tom was preceded in death by his dearest Joan on Mother’s Day of 2018.
During his 23-year distinguished military career as a submariner, Tom served as Ensign, July 1961; Lt. Jr. Grade, July 1962; Lieutenant, March 1965; Lieutenant Commander, July 1969; Commander, July 1976; Captain, September 1982, and retired in October of 1984. Captain Eckert served as the Commanding Officer of the USS Grayling (SSN-646) submarine from January 1978 to August 1981 during the very height of the Cold War, a time when there was significant buildup of nuclear weapons and a fierce competition in military technology, including submarine warfare between Russia and the U.S.
Upon retirement and after receiving his Masters from George Washington University, Tom assumed the responsibilities of payroll and maintenance for Baylake Pines School, the family business until its closing in 2014.
Tom is survived by his three daughters: Kimberly Failon (Brian), Susan Noaksson, and Elizabeth Sorrell (Bryan). He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren: Kathryn Failon; Caroline Failon; Erik Noaksson (Ashley); Alexis Noaksson; Nicholas Failon; Ethan Sorrell; and Austin Sorrell. Special thanks to longtime family friends, Lawrence and Annette Knight, for their support and care of Tom in his final years.
Tom loved telling and retelling his fishing stories of ole. In fact, he loved hearing all fishing stories and listened with great relish, living vicariously in his later years when his health kept him from getting out in the boat. He was the keenest nature watcher and could spot any hawk, hummingbird, fox, possum etc. on his property before anyone else could. He loved his puzzles and his crossword puzzles and could always be heard asking “Do you know a word for 21 down?”
There will be a private service, but the family asks that when you are near the water, that you remember our “seaman” Capt. Eckert, Tom, Dad, Grandpop or Pop. The sea was always a place that he loved and felt most at peace, and it will be a place to which he returns.
