The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

SOCHA .. .. .. David S. Socha 1938 - 2025 Ludlow
David "Dave" Stanley Socha, 86, a lifelong resident of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield, he was the son of the late Stanley and Melania (Frankowski) Socha. David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A graduate of Technical High School , Class of 1956, David led a remarkable life of service, dedication, and passion. He proudly served in the US Navy Submarine Service stationed aboard the USS Croaker. As a frogman and sonar technician, he was trained in specialized operations that, by today's standards, are equivalent to that of a Navy SEAL. Upon his release he served in the US Navy Reserves. His bravery, discipline, and commitment to his country marked the beginning of a life defined by honor. After his time in the Navy, David returned to the family business (Frank's Tavern), and soon met his loving wife, Betty, sharing sixty-three years of wonderful marriage. Together they raised four children and led a life of dedication to family, church and faith. David's unwavering work ethic, passion, loyalty and dedication made him a respected member of his community. Yet, his achievements were not confined to the business world alone. David, a former Portsmouth, England, soccer player who found far greater success as the pre-eminent American referee of his era, worked NASL (North American Soccer League) matches from 1978-1984. He officiated at the highest levels of the game along with some of the world's greatest ever to play the game. He became the first American to officiate in World Cup matches in 1982, the 1986 World Cup, the Soccer Bowl in '82 and '84, 1984 Olympic Games, and the 1982 and 1986 FIFA World All Star Games. He earned the respect of players, coaches, and fellow referees worldwide. His keen sense of fairness, passion for the game, and commitment to integrity shaped his storied career in soccer, where he made an indelible mark. He was inducted into the New England and Connecticut Soccer Halls of Fame, and was also a member of the Ludlow VFW Post 3236, Palmer American Legion Post 130, Polish American Veterans Club of Wilbraham and the Minos Cretan Association. After retiring from the game he loved, David worked for seventeen years, retiring from the MA Turnpike Authority. Above all, David was a man of great character, a proud veteran and friend to many. He will be remembered for his strength, devotion, and loving commitment to his family and church, St. George Cathedral in Springfield, where he proudly served as past-president of the parish council. David is survived by his beloved, adoring wife of sixty-three years, Betty (Kaloroumakis) Socha; his loving children, Karen Surapine and husband Peter of Stafford Springs, CT, Jake Socha and wife Maureen of Ludlow, Melaina De Marco and husband Robert of Pound Ridge, NY, and Pamela Chaplin and husband Alex of Ludlow. David, "Dziadziu", will be missed dearly by his incredible grandchildren, Emilie (Eric) Pacheco, Michaela (Robert) Smith, Paige (Adrian) Perkins, Molly (George Capen) Socha, Oscar De Marco, and Elena Chaplin; and treasured great grandchildren, Jacob Socha, Braydon and Declan Smith. He also leaves behind his great aunt, Cynia Kudla, his brother Daniel Socha, sister Kristine Gregory and many nieces and nephews whom he loved. David's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to his kind and generous caregivers, Liz, Vida, Irene and Kim, who supported him with tireless love and care during his battle with Parkinsons Disease. Funeral services for David will be held on Wednesday, February 19th, with a Mass at 11:30AM in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Rd., Springfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.

LANGENHEIM .. .. .. John Perry Langenheim, 92, died peacefully in his sleep on March 18, 2025, in Edmonds, Washington. John is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Kathleen Langenheim; his daughter Jane Langenheim Kistler (John); four step children, Tim Cross, Ashley Coats, Susan Bradford and Blair Norris; as well as grandchildren, William, Connor (Emily) and Emma Kistler. He is preceded in death by his son William Langenheim, his parents Hay and Eva Langenheim; siblings Patricia Callahan, James Langenheim, Jane Wax and nephew, Larry Lippman.
John was born in Hollywood, CA, to Hay and Eva Langenheim on December 28, 1932. He graduated from Newport Union High School in Newport Beach, CA, and was a true, native, southern California beach boy. He was accepted into the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, graduating in 1956. He then attended and graduated from the US Naval Submarine school and ultimately served as an officer on submarines his entire career out of New London, CT; Key West, FL; Virginia Beach, VA; and Pearl Harbor, HI. He was also proud of his assignment to work on a special communication control system out of Dreux, France, set up by President Kennedy. He achieved the rank of Commander, and participated in submarine deployments primarily in the Atlantic arena, commanding the USS Halfbeak (SS-352) from 1969-1971. John served in the US Navy for 21 years.
Retiring from the Navy in 1977, he worked out of Honolulu, HI, as a yacht broker, and as a marina manager (CMM), and then moved to Amsterdam, Holland, to pursue a life-long passion to travel the rivers and canals of France, which he did for a year on his 54 ft. steel-hulled Dutch Tjaulk. He then returned to Honolulu to begin a second career as a program manager for Honeywell Marine Systems, eventually moving to Seattle. While working 12 years for Honeywell in their international programs, he traveled to 15 countries in Europe and the Middle East, coordinating sales of defense systems. In 1994, he married Kathleen in Bozeman, MT, subsequently living in Spokane, WA, Naples, FL, and Edmonds, WA.
Besides serving his country in the military, John's private life was also dedicated to service in the communities in which he lived. He volunteered for, founded or led over 20 charitable organizations during his retirement, including the Montana Ambassadors, the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International. In 2005, he was named Rotarian of the Year by the Bozeman, MT, Rotary Noon Club. When he moved to Spokane, he became a member of Spokane Club 21, and was instrumental in creating a committee in support of Veterans.
With all this, he still had time for his three other passions in life: family, church and boating. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren's many accomplishments, including his eldest grandson's service in the US Army infantry. He and Kathleen were always partners together when serving their respective non-profits, committees and churches in Bozeman, Spokane and Naples.
John will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the USNA Alumni Foundation.
