At random: During their wartime operations submarines have engaged in some unusual maritime actions. One undersea craft slugged it out with the infantry and field artillery while other submarines destroyed a zeppelin, a bus, and a railroad train.

The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

FIGEL .. .. .. Chester G. Figel, 95, of Roseland and longtime resident of Bayville, passed away on March 17, 2025.
Born in Perth Amboy, Chester grew up during the Great Depression, an era that profoundly shaped his resilience and character. One of seven siblings in the foster care system of the 1930s and '40s, he remained a steadfast force in keeping his family connected, serving as the glue that held them together throughout his life. The bond shared by the Figel siblings was beautiful and unbreakable, a testament to their enduring love for one another.
As a teenager, Chester enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a distinguished military career as an engineman aboard ships and submarines. His service took him across the globe, and after more than 20 years of dedication, he retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Chester valued time with his loved ones above all else. He was an avid gardener who found joy in tending to his yard, a passionate cook with a discerning palate, and a lifelong animal lover who cared for many dogs over the years. He stayed sharp by keeping up with current events, listening to music, and never shying away from a challenge-whether it was fixing cars, plumbing, or anything else that needed rebuilding.
Chester's greatest and most cherished role came after his military retirement: that of a stay-at-home dad. His life's resume may have looked different from many men of his generation, but he embraced it fully. He was, in equal measure, a "silly goose" and a bit of a grump, brilliant and quirky, tough yet deeply loyal. He had a unique way of lighting up a room-if he decided to grace it with his presence. Above all, he was loved beyond measure and will be forever missed.
