You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. WALL .. .. .. Barry Leland Wall was born in Charleston, South Carolina. Soon after the Wall family moved back to St.Augustine, Fla and called it home. Barry graduated from St. Augustine High in 1977. Barry was an awesome trombonist; playing in the concert, jazz, and marching bands. He played for his church as well. Barry worked for the family business of Circle W Auto Parts, helping in the store. He worked his early years for Sambos Restaurant which led to traveling to multiple stores for the company. He soon found interest in the US Navy and devoted more than 13 years of service as a crew member aboard submarines. He was stationed at Naval bases in Groton, CT, Kings Bay, GA and Charleston, SC. Upon retiring from the Navy, Barry started driving 18 wheelers across the United States. He loved traveling and drove as a career for over twenty years until his health would no longer allow for it. Barry was married to Allison Thomas Wall for 36 years. They had two children Michael (Beth) Orlando, Fla and Amanda of Springfield, Mo. Barry and Allison have been blessed with six grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and cousins. Barry is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Freda Wall and his sister Karen. He is survived by his brothers: Gary (Kathy) of West Plains, Mo; Larry (Cheryl) and Kerry (Jennifer) all of St. Augustine, Fl. BACON .. .. .. Captain Barton E. BACON III USNAVY (Ret.) was born in San Diego on June 3,1937 and passed away on Jan 25,2025 at Palomar Hospital in Escondido Ca. After graduating from Bremerton High School in Washington "Bart" attended the University of Washington. Following college, Bart entered the United States Navy as an Aviation Officer Candidate in Pensacola, Florida. He received his commission with the Class of 1961 and served tours of duty at the Memphis, Saufley, and Whiting Naval Air Stations, and on board the carrier, USS YORKTOWN. Despite a successful aviation career Bart decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and two brothers in the submarine force. His father, Barton E. Bacon II, commanded the USS PICKEREL during World II and eventually retired as a Rear Admiral. Bart's twin brother, Vice Admiral Roger Bacon and his younger brother Commander Dan Bacon both predeceased Bart after decorated Naval service in the submarine force. Bart attended Submarine School in 1963. He subsequently served on five submarines: USS REDFISH (SS-395); USS SEGUNDO (SS-398); USS VOLADOR (SS-490); USS SALMON (SS-573); and USS TROUT (SS-566), completing eight deployments to the western Pacific. Under his command, the USS TROUT was awarded the Battle Efficiency "E." as the best diesel submarine in the entire Navy that year. His next assignment was as the commanding officer of the USS Cleveland Bart also served on the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, Chief of Naval Personnel, and the Commandant, Thirteenth Naval District. He was a graduate of the National War College, and the Armed Forces Staff College and Defense Intelligence School. His last assignment was as the commanding officer of the Submarine Training Facility, and Navy Personnel Research Department in Point Loma. Bart retired after serving his country for 31 years. As a commanding officer, Bart was beloved by his crew. He made a point of speaking to his entire crew on a regular basis regardless of their rank. Bart wanted his crew's opinions and input as how the "boat" could be improved. Bart continued to stay in contact with many of his crew members after his retirement. He will always be remembered as a kind, humble and compassionate man. Service to his country was important to Bart. However, even more important was his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Miller on Aug 2, 1964. Marlene passed due to medical complications in 1976. Several years later in 1980, Bart married Mary Catherine Mutscheller (Bell). They were happily married for 44 years until Mary passed on June 12 , 2024. Bart was much more than a step father to Mary's five children: Diane, Nancy, Lynn, Catherine and Robert. Bart was the "rock" you could always count on. He was known as "Papa" to Mary's children and her six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece and five nephews. As an avid photographer he made sure every holiday and other major event was preserved in his wonderful photos. Mary and he were avid travelers and their trips were well documented in his photos. HAUGHTON .. .. .. Kenneth H. Haughton, age 91, died Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Halifax Health Hospice, Port Orange. Born in Selma, Alabama to Kenneth C. and Gladys Grimes Haughton, he came to the area in 1985 from Orlando. Kenneth was a United States Navy veteran, in the submarine. He was very proud to have been a submariner. An accountant, he was raised a Baptist and was a very proud graduate of the University of Alabama....."Roll Tide"....... Kenneth enjoyed fishing, boating, and NASCAR. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, LaNell; 3 children, Natalee (Gerry) Ash, David (Lisa) Faith, and George (Lajuana) Haughton; 3 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Jobeth (Sonny) Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Bristol. Graveside service with Military Honors will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims. | ||
