The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.
I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.
ANDERSON .. .. .. CAPTAIN HAROLD MURRAY ANDERSON, a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, devoted father and loving husband, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Mr. Anderson, of Dryden, was born July 28, 1942, in Ontario, Canada, to parents George and Dorothy (Fair) Anderson.
After graduating from the Naval Academy, Capt. Anderson married the love of his life, Sandra Rae Page, in Detroit. His 27 year of service (1964-1991) included covert monitoring of Soviet fleet movement during the Cold War and commanding the fast attack submarine, USS SHARK, where he attained the rank of captain. Capt. Anderson passed many values on to his two daughters from his time in the Navy, like duty, sacrifice, loyalty, honesty, and, of course, that loose lips sink ships.
In 1983, Capt. Anderson went on to get a master’s degree in international relations and became a Naval representative to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. After he retired, Capt. Anderson raised thousands of dollars for the research of Multiple Myeloma, a cancer he was diagnosed with. He did countless fun runs and other events over the years, which all gave him hope and peace. On top of that he then became involved with Stephen Ministries, a group in which allowed him to speak, counsel and listen to anyone who needed someone to talk to. Most recently, he worked with Reach the Forgotten Jail Ministry, an outreach program in which he did Bible study with prisoners.
Capt. Anderson is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his two children, Meredith (Robert) Little, of New Hampshire, and Hilary Anderson, of Burton, and two grandchildren, Emily Little and Connor Little. He is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and his three siblings, Douglas Anderson, Dwight Anderson and Sharon Kruse.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 1, from 12-4 p.m. at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Capt. Anderson’s funeral service will be Monday, December 2, at 11 a.m. at Muirs. Pastor Evan Veen will officiate. The captain will be buried in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on Tuesday, December 3, at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
