The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

KOWALCHUK .. .. .. teven Edward Kowalchuk, aged 76, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on November 1, 2024, in Hillsborough, NJ.

Steve was born on July 14, 1948, in Somerville, NJ to Steven and Iren Kowalchuk. He grew up in Flagtown and graduated from Somerville High School, where he played basketball and baseball. After high school, he studied at Rutgers University and married his high school sweetheart, Kim. They just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past September. Steve proudly served in the U.S. Navy on a nuclear submarine, the USS George Washington, with stations in Charleston, SC, and Honolulu, HI.

After his military service, Steve returned to Hillsborough, where they raised their two daughters and began a distinguished career in construction. As a Superintendent at Henderson Construction, his leadership and expertise were invaluable to the company and the projects he oversaw. Steve was also a member of Local 455.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Steve enjoyed spending time in his garden, eagerly awaiting that first red tomato and deep-sea fishing, where he loved to share stories of the big one that got away with the boys at Farley's Tavern and the Neshanic Inn. He was also a passionate sports fan, cheering on the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Women's Basketball team.

Steve is survived by his wife, Kim Kowalchuk; daughters Tanya Handel and her husband Kurt, and Kacey Kowalchuk with her boyfriend Keith Miller; sister Linda Roncoroni; and cherished grandchildren Ana Handel, Kyra Handel, Kylie Jara and Cole Jara. He was preceded in death by his sister, Stephanie Panacek and his stepmother, Margie Kowalchuk.

Steve will be remembered for his wisdom, dedication to family and hardworking spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 4:30pm at The Landing in Hillsborough.
