At random: "THAT'S NICE THAT THE ELECTRICIAN AND A-GANGERS WORKED ALL NIGHT TO GET THE DIESEL GENERATOR READY, BUT WE'RE NOT GETTING UNDERWAY UNTIL EVERY TOASTER IN THE WARDROOM PANTRY IS WORKING" quoted during Tautog's DustPac '85-86 Deployment

The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

HAYDEN .. .. .. In Memory of Nicholas Blaze Hayden, age 79 of Cleveland, Ohio passed away into the loving arms of Jesus on the evening of September 7, 2024.
Nicholas was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1945. He was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy as a Fireman until his motor scooter accident in 1964. Following his release from the US Navy, he went on to earn his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from Cleveland State University, dedicating most of his career as a Cleveland Public School teacher. In his retirement, he worked for several medical supply companies, in logistics, and served as a Docent for the USS Cod Submarine Memorial.
Nicholas had an enthusiastic spirit for life and enjoyed connecting with others. He was a warm, patient, empathic, optimistic, and friendly soul, who inspired so many to be their best selves. His insatiable appetite for learning about any topic led one family member to refer to him as "an Encyclopedia." A survivor of several bouts of cancer since his forties, Nicholas served as a fitting example of grit and resilience. He lived his life to its fullest - he savored his time in nature and with his pets, loved traveling, learning at the Danauschwaben, practicing yoga, working on anything mechanical (especially a certain Swedish car), walking, swimming, and teaching people how to drive, how an airplane can fly, or speak German. Nicholas was deeply proud of family members and his roots, his service in the military, and his beloved city of Cleveland.
Nicholas is survived by his children Eric Hayden (Jenn) and Justine Hayden-Carlson and their mother, Paulette Matter; Brothers: Thomas (Fran), Daniel (Bonnie), John (Patty); Sisters: Mary Hayden-Medina (Steven) and Maureen Hayden; Grandchildren: Helena, Anna, Christian, Graham, Quinn, and Emery; and Great Granddaughter: Marcy. Nicholas is also a loved father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend.
Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents Ann and Nicholas Hayden; Brothers: Michael (Debbie) and James (Joan).
Family will receive family and friends to celebrate the life of Nicholas on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 2:00pm - 5:00 pm at Golub Funeral Home, 4703 Superior Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44103.
Funeral Mass, Monday, September 16, 2024, at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, 4129 Superior Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103. (Please Meet At Church). Followed by immediate procession to his final resting place at All Souls Cemetery, 10366 Chardon Rd., Chardon, Ohio 44024
