The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

PRICE .. .. .. John A. Price of Westminster passed away on September 14 at the age of 100. He was the beloved husband of Nina H. (Butler) Price. He was born February 25, 1924, in Bayonne, New Jersey to the late Anthony Preisendorf and the late Teresa (Straub) Preisendorf. He was a graduate of Bayonne Technical High School Class of 1941. Subsequently, John legally changed his last name to Price. Following high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his parent's permission at the age of 17 and was selected for submarine duty. He was active in submarine war patrols in the Pacific during WWII and received several awards, including the Submarine Combat Insignia. In 2016, he received the Navy Combat Action Ribbon for service during depth charge attacks on the U.S.S. Piranha in 1944. John and Nina were married in 1949 at the Navy Chapel in Key West, Florida. During his naval career, the family moved several times as he was assigned to other duty stations. He remained in the Navy in the submarine service after WWII, retiring in 1962 as a Chief Warrant Officer W3. After John retired from the Navy, the family settled in Connecticut, where John was employed by General Dynamics Electric Boat at Groton, CT. Over fifteen years, he held several positions, including program coordinator in the Trident nuclear-powered attack submarine project. The family moved to Maryland in 1978 and John was employed by Navy contractors until his final retirement in 1985. During his retirement years, he attended night school under the GI bill. He received degrees from several colleges, including a Master of Science in Business Management from the University of Southern California. John enjoyed outdoor activities, starting as Eagle Scout in his youth. He taught Maryland Hunter Safety Courses to numerous future hunters. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, gardening, and hiking with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 467, Submarine Veterans of America Tri-State Base, U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII, Catholic War Veterans, and the Carroll County Bird Club. John was a parishioner of Saint John Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Wisdom Club and St. Vincent de Paul Society, and was a third and fourth degree Knight of Columbus. John was the original MacGyver, inventing effective if unusual devices such as squirrel-proof birdfeeders, displaying a knack for creative engineering solutions to everyday challenges. The family would especially like to acknowledge John's many friends who supported his participation in book club, VA meetings, and Knights of Columbus functions, including Kevin Carter, Vince Mettle, Stephen Leon, and Gary Saylor, among others. John's home health aide Megan Hoffman was especially dear to him. She said of John, "I loved all his stories, sense of humor, kind heart, and all his clever, handy ways to make something work." In addition to his loving wife Nina of 74 years, John leaves behind 6 children, Veronica Moffitt of Maine, Barbara Price (John McCombs) of California, Margaret Price of Florida, Michael Price of Utah, Cathy Moore of New York, and Patricia Freeburg of Oklahoma, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and nieces Nancy Dzurisson and Susan Mulligan of New Jersey. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Cook of New Jersey. The family will receive friends at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster on Sunday, September 22, from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm. A rosary service will take place on September 22, beginning at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint John Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster on Monday, September 23, at 11 am. Burial with military honors at Westminster Cemetery at 12 North Church Street will follow the Mass. A luncheon will be served at the Saint John Roman Catholic Church Portico following interment.
