Richard H. "Dick" Trueb, Retired Deputy Chief S.F.P.D, entered into eternal life on March 13, 2011. He was a native San Franciscan and resident of Millbrae for the last 25 years. Dick was born to Josephine and Jack Trueb on August 25, 1930. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and his dear brother, Bob. Dick graduated from St. James High School in 1948 and went on to City College of S.F. where he studied Police Science. He later attended S.F. State University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Urban Policy and Public Administration in 1975. He served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service during the Korean War and upon honorable discharge became a S.F. Muni Railway operator. He joined the S.F.P.D. in 1954 where he was a dedicated and respected officer for 32 years. Dick studied hard and was promoted through the ranks from Patrolman to Captain, and was later appointed to Commander and then to Deputy Chief from which he retired in 1986. He was a member of the Retired S.F.P.O.A., S.F. Veteran P.O.A., the Widows and Orphans Aid Assn of the S.F.P.D., Retired Employees of the City and County of S.F., the O.F.M., American Legion Police Post 456, and the Knights of Columbus of St. Dunstan's. Dick fought through and survived many serious health problems during his lifetime but finally succumbed after a valiant fight to metastatic lung cancer. His greatest concerns were his love and care of his family and his duty to the police department and the citizens of San Francisco. He gave his all to both and enjoyed the friendship of everyone with whom he came in contact. The family wishes to recognize and thank Dick's caregivers Ruby and Ric, Antoinette and the other nurses from Kaiser Hospice for their devoted and compassionate care, and all the friends whose lives he touched and whose lives touched him.
