William Eugene Rawson, 84, of Astor Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by beloved family on July 11, 2026. William was born on April 16, 1942, in Twin Falls Idaho to Leslie Max Rawson and Viola Mae Combs. William served in the United States Navy as a Submarine Sonarman on both the U.S.S. Sam Houston and the Alexander Hamilton. After his Naval service William went on to work as an engineer and entrepreneur in the communications industry. Beyond working, providing for his family and spending time with family and friends, William loved singing in his high school choir, the voices of Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli, photography, fishing, and building projects around his home. He is survived by his wife Rita Carol Rawson, sons George (Mary) Rawson, Robert Rawson and daughter Mee Ah (Matt) Buckley. Grandchildren, Ethan, Zachary, Billy, Christopher, Matthew, Olivia, Bo, and Brenna and several great grandchildren and his brother Michael Rawson and step sister Trudy Throckmorton. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Buddy, Ronny and David. William will be remembered for his gentle kindness, generous caring spirit and his sense of humor. He had a deep devotion, love and dedication to his wife and family. STAPLES .. .. .. Charles Staples died peacefully at his home in Santa Rosa on November 29, 2012. He was 95. Born on June 27, 1917 in Malden, MA, he attended Georgia Tech and was a member of Naval ROTC. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1938, one of six in his class to find a job. He worked in Dallas, TX and attended First Presbyterian Church, where he met Nancy Wills Pulliam. When his Naval Reserve unit was called to active duty in World War II, he and Nancy were married on November 22, 1941. They were together 61 years, until Nancy’s passing in 2002. During the war, Charlie served in the US Navy Submarine service on the USS-Gabilan and as skipper on USS S-42. He retired in 1946 as Lieut. Comdr. After the war, they returned to Dallas and he worked for Proctor and Gamble. They raised three daughters, Marguerite (French), Carol (Critz) and Susan (Hathaway). He continued to work for P & G thirty years, as plant engineer in Sacramento and Jackson, TN. He was always active in church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, serving on session, and other committees. He enjoyed being Boy Scout master in Dallas and in Sacramento at Washington Neighborhood Center. At retirement, Charlie and Nancy built a home in Morro Bay and enjoyed cruising on their sailboat “Pelican”. In 1998 they moved to Santa Rosa. After Nancy’s passing, Charlie continued to serve as Deacon at First Presbyterian Church. He loved his family and had seven grand children and eight great-grandchildren. He was a remarkable man who will always be remembered. | ||
