You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. FOGG .. .. .. Willis C. Fogg, 88, a longtime resident and business owner in Rindge, passed away on July 11, 2026, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. His parents, Newell R. and Annie E. (Nylund) Fogg, welcomed their son into the world on April 5, 1938, in Gardner, Mass. Willis attended public schools in Ashburnham and Fitchburg, Mass. In the late 1950s, Willis’ father moved the family gas station from Fitchburg, Mass., to the intersections of Routes 202 and 119 in Rindge, where Willis began working with his father. On March 12, 1957, Willis enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Vermilion and onboard the USS Grampus submarine. He was honorably discharged from active duty on Jan. 13, 1961, at the rank of Ensign, transferring to the Naval Reserves. Following his military service, Willis returned to working at the family service station and heating oil business, N.R. Fogg & Son, driving tank trucks and delivering heating oil to homes in Rindge. He also drove semi-tractor trailer trucks across the United States. Willis was proud of his role in the installation of the 500,000-gallon above-ground fuel oil tank located on the business’ property. He fondly referred to this tank as his “Pee Can.” After his father’s death in 1970, Willis and his then-wife, Evelyn, continued the family business. Later his company, Fogg Energy, expanded their offerings to include a propane tank exchange offering where he would refurbish and fill small propane tanks. Later, the building that housed the business was moved across the street and up the hill to what is now known as Pizza Haven. Skilled with his hands, he built Adirondack chairs and raised planter boxes. He enjoyed driving and motorcycle riding. He also enjoyed working as a tour bus driver until his retirement. RUSSELL .. .. .. Frederick "Fred" Roy Russell, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, TN. Born in Dedham, MA on May 3, 1935, Fred was the son of Josephine and George Russell. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy (naval reserve submarine service) in New London, CT and proudly served from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1961. He married his sweetheart Jean Demers at St. Anne Parish in Readville, MA on April 19, 1954. Fred worked hard throughout his life to support his family, often working two to three jobs, including work as a pizza chef at The Wings in Norwood, MA during the 1960s. He retired from Kelek Company/Cooper Industries after 40 years of employment, having worked in many roles, including manufacturing, foreman, facilities engineer and safety engineer. Fred always enjoyed spending time with his family and some of his fondest memories were vacationing in different parts of the country with his children and grandchildren. He loved local cuisine, whether it was seafood (lobster and clams) on Cape Cod, venison in the Berkshires, chicken fried steak in Texas, or ribs and brisket in Tennessee; in the company of his family, nothing was better. When at home, he was an avid reader, liked working in the garden, cheering on the Red Sox with his wife Jean, and tinkering with a multitude of home projects. All his life, Fred loved the sea, the water; loved to swim. Even in his senior years, he was able to swim on Cape Cod, at Holden Beach North Carolina and lastly at the age of 86, swam with his son and daughters from the deck of Fred Jr’s pontoon boat on Tellico Lake, TN. Those left to cherish memories of Frederick include his beloved wife of 72 years, Jean Russell; his son Frederick Russell Jr.; daughters: Deborah Gulotta, Suzanne Green and Valerie Goldston; daughter in law Kelly Russell and son in law William Gulotta; grandchildren: Brian and Daniel Gulotta; Ashley Russell and Lauren Trainor; Stephanie Olivier and Tiffany Green; Matthew and Dustin Goldston; and his many great grandchildren. He was predeceased by grandson Brandon Goldston. DOUGLAS .. .. .. John Joseph Douglas “Bongo John” lived a long and interesting life from February 17, 1921-August 3, 2019, born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and passed away at home in Rohnert Park, CA. Early years, age 15-16, worked as farm hand; age 18 book binder machine helper; age 19 printing machine operator for Social Security dept.; age 19 1/2 joined the United States Navy. Proud Navy man, served in the United States Navy from 1940 to 1960. Vessels and stations served on: USS Portland Coral Sea Battle 1942, World War II USS Stockton DD646 Destroyer 1943 to 1944. USS Cone DD866 Destroyer Mediterranean Sea December 1949 to March-1952. Submarine Duty, Korean War USS Sea Devil SS400 1952-1953. Rogers Police Patrol, 1955 San Diego, CA, part time while awaiting training Navy Recruits ended. U.S.NTC San Diego, CA. 1956, USS Spinax SS489 Submarine November 1, 1956 to March 1, 1960. John retired as Chief Gunner’s Mate in March 1960 age 39. John was married to Ruth on November 11, 1950. After navy retirement, age 39, worked five months as correctional officer at Alcatraz Island, April-September 1960. Moved to Novato, CA from San Diego, CA; December 1960 to April 1962 worked as a mail carrier for Novato Post Office. April 1962, age 41, worked as Engine Mechanic-Transportation supervisor for San Rafael City Schools then retired in May 1976. Later years moved to Burlington Vermont his wife’s hometown for four years, where he worked as a shopping mall manager. In 1980, moved to Sonoma County ,age 60, worked as chief dispatcher, truck mechanic, electric power mechanic at Department of the Army-Presidio, CA, where he retired age 67. Went on to five years of volunteering. Wrote his life biography. He survived by his son John W. Douglas; three children and eight grandchildren; daughter Mary R. Goebel, husband Ron; two children and three grandchildren; daughter Barbara A. Douglas; three children, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; daughter Susan M. Titman; three children and six grandchildren; daughter Linda Bhader, husband Bill; two children and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth I. Douglas, who died at age 60 in 1989, great-granddaughter Emilce M. Borbon June 28, 2014 died at age of 16 and son Paul Douglas in 1961 who died three days after birth. John had a passion for work, gardening was his favorite along with music, dancing, long walks, history buff, Minister of Universal life Church, computers until 96. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a good-hearted, lovely, intelligent man, cared deeply for those in need. He is a legend. | ||
