You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. PAVLAK .. .. .. Edmund Joseph Pavlak Jr. of Westhampton died on April 15 in Punta Gorda, Florida. He was 84. He was born and raised in Westhampton. He spent years kayaking the Great South Bay and the Long Island Sound. He enjoyed walking, and walked 4 miles daily through the neighborhoods of Speonk, Remsenburg and Westhampton. He was born to Edmund Joseph Pavlak Sr. and Catherine Pavlak (née King) on September 4, 1941. He attended a two-room schoolhouse until sixth grade, then transferred to Westhampton Beach Junior High School and attended Westhampton Beach High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and his first years of service were aboard the USS Observation Island, a surface ship stationed at Cape Canaveral, where he was part of the crew to launch the first polaris missile. His remaining time was served on a nuclear submarine stationed in Hawaii. He continued to stay in touch with his Navy buddies until his passing. He returned to Long Island, where he obtained a master’s degree in social work and spent 30 years working for Child Protective Services in Suffolk County. He spent many years clamming on Moriches Bay. He was also an active member of the Southampton Democratic Committee. He enjoyed traveling and spent his retirement years wintering in warmer climates. Over his lifetime, he visited all 50 states. He spent time studying the stock market, kept up with space exploration and loved to buy lottery tickets. He is survived by his partner, Janet Gabriel; and his children Kathy Kraner (Tyrone Davis), Susan Borsella (the late Greg Borsella), Joe Pavlak (Linda), and Aimee Lunden (Eric); 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his sisters, Judy Kane (James), Anne (Cathy) Pavlak and Christine Washick. He was predeceased by his youngest son, Eric Pavlak (Jeannine); and his sister Maureen Pollack. KESTERSON .. .. .. Shaun KESTERSON May 23, 1951 – February 10, 2016 Shaun was born in Montana, but grew up in San Bernardino County. He graduated from Fontana High School in 1969, and joined the Navy. He served on the USS Seawolf in the Submarine service during the Cold War. Afterwards, he was employed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Shaun went to UC Berkley and graduated with a degree in Engineering. Upon the closure of Mare Island, Shaun was hired by the Dept. of Energy and advanced from a Professional Mechanical Engineer to a Staff Civil Engineer. He finished his career at Lawrence Livermore Lab as a Systems Engineer for the Plutonium Facilities. During his career he developed many friends, both professionally and socially. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his three children, Kristopher, David, and Shannon; his grandchildren, Haley, Coral, Brandon, Kayla, Shaun, Orion, Kristopher, and Terran; as well as his siblings, Patty, Kevin, Lisa and Mona. LE GROS .. .. .. LE GROS, Sr., John Edward Passed away at the age of 92 on February 1st, 2016 at his home in Sonoma, California. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Beth; son Tom Le Gros (his wife Karen) of Visalia, California; son Richard Le Gros (his wife Kelley) of Los Osos, California; daughter Clare Gordon, (her husband Robert) and grandson Ross Gordon of San Francisco, California; and great granddaughter Nevaeh Le Gros of West Mansfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by son John Le Gros Jr. and grandson Ryan Le Gros. John was born in Oak Park, Illinois on March 21st, 1923. In his youth, he developed the strong work ethic, moral foundation and character which would serve him and all who knew him throughout his life. By the age of 17, he had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with The Boy Scouts of America, placed second in the Illinois State Boys’ Tennis Championship (Doubles category) and was voted both Senior Class President and “Big Man on Campus” by fellow classmates at River Forest Township High School in Oak Park. John’s scholastic performance led to his admission at Yale University in 1940. To serve his country during World War II, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was placed in an officer training program while he finished his studies at Yale. The training required additional instruction at M.I.T. and Harvard University. After graduating from Yale in 1944 with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Chemical Engineering, John served aboard the submarine USS Barbero at Subic Bay in the Phillipines where he was stationed for the duration of the war. John and Beth were married in Pasadena, California on April 18th, 1947. In 1948, John began a long career at Shell Chemical Corporation, living in many parts of the U.S. and traveling around the world in the performance of his business responsibilities. In 1965, John went on to pursue other business interests before moving to Chicago, Illinois in 1980 as President of American Filtrona Corporation. In 1995 he retired, moving to San Francisco, California. Shortly thereafter, he volunteered with the International Executive Service Corps, a non-profit organization founded by David Rockefeller, assisting the economic development of former Communist countries. John and Beth lived in the Ukraine and Macedonia for extended periods of time. In 1999 John and Beth moved to Sonoma, California. They continued their travels around the world. John lived an admirable, full and worthy life. He was greatly loved and respected by his family and his many friends. He will be sorely missed. | ||
