You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. TURGEON .. .. .. Philippe O. Turgeon, Jr., 90 died Saturday, November 2, 2024, at The Arbors of Bedford in Bedford, New Hampshire. He was born on May 29, 1934, in Danville (now Auburn), Maine, the son of Philippe Turgeon and Germaine (Ferland) Turgeon. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline (Jackie) Berube Turgeon. They were married on May 12, 1954, in Lewiston, Maine. Jackie and Phil were married for 57 years. Phil was in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring as Chief Petty Officer, Fire Control Technician, in 1972. He served on battleships, destroyers and submarines. He was a Korean War Veteran. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, Brunswick, Maine, Long Beach, California and Groton, Connecticut. While at Naval Air Station Brunswick, he taught a Wilderness Survival Course. He served as an Instructor at the Submarine School at SubBase Groton. He served on three Guppy class submarines: USS Hardhead, USS Halfbeak and the USS Clamagore. At the time of his retirement, he was Chief of the Boat of the USS Clamagore. This is the senior enlisted position on the submarine. After his retirement from the Navy, Phil moved back to Lewiston, where he and his wife Jackie built their dream home. Phil worked as a rural mail carrier until 1989, when he retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Phil also became a Master Electrician after returning to Maine. He continued to do electrical work until his early 80s. Phil loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisher. He built a hunting camp in Eustis, Maine. He looked forward to his annual weeklong deer hunting trip. This was the highlight of his year. Phil was always a hard worker - willing to help out family and friends whenever he was asked. He was always planning his next job or project. Two of his former Navy colleagues told his daughters, “Phil was the best shipmate I ever had”. That is high praise from fellow Navy veterans. Family meant everything to Phil. He was a devoted husband and father. He always encouraged his daughters to follow their dreams, telling them they could achieve anything. Phil was known for his great sense of humor. He was always making a joke, or telling a funny story. He had so many great stories from his years in the Navy, or his adventures as a kid. Phil was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, SubVets, the NRA, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and the Stanton Bird Club. He is survived by daughter Kim Appleton of Raymond, New Hampshire, daughter Misti Muscat of Hayesville, North Carolina, grandson Matthew Appleton of Kingston, New Hampshire, granddaughter Ashley (Appleton) Mota of Epping, New Hampshire, great-grandchildren Evelyn, Markus and Elias Appleton and Max Mota, sister Claudette Giacomino of Vero Beach, Florida and several nieces and nephews. LONG .. .. .. Dave Long, age 80 of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Everheart Hospice in Greenville. He was born on May 14, 1944 in Memphis, TN to the late Alvia David Sr. and June Rosemary Long. In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his children, Tammy Long Garland, Brian Long, and Darin Long; and brothers, Tim Long and Mark Long. Those left to cherish Dave's memory include his loving wife, Carolyn Long; daughter, Shannon (Jason) Smith; son in law, Tim Garland; brother, Steve (Heidi) Long; sisters in law, Diane Long and Sydney Long; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dave was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving as a Nuclear Propulsion Engineer over submarines. He worked many years in quality control engineering at Dayton Steel Foundry. Dave had a passion for collecting Indian Artifacts. He also enjoyed and excelled in throwing darts, winning the Ohio State and Indiana State dart tournaments. Dave had a sense of humor that will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was known for his infectious smile and his great jokester personality. A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family. HOLMES .. .. ..Harry Ross (Rusty) Holmes, III, 60, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in White Cloud Michigan on November 3, 2024. Rusty was born February 29, 1964 to the late Harry Holmes Jr and Susanna Warner-Bricker. Rusty attended Gobles Public Schools and served in the US Navy as a nuclear submarine mechanic. He is survived by sisters Chris (Howard) Gould of Holland, MI and Michelle (Gary) Harriman of Martinsville, IN, step siblings, Michael Bricker, Donald Bricker, Jerry Bricker, Robbie Bricker and Debbie Vaughan along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rusty was predeceased by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, brother Larry Jenkins of Owensville, Missouri, and several aunts and uncles. Per Rusty's wishes no services are planned at this time and cremation has taken place. STONE .. .. .. November 3, 2024 Edward W. Stone, 101, long time resident of the Valley area of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024. Ed was born and raised in Towanda, PA. Ed was a proud Navy Veteran. He enlisted in 1940 and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, HI December 7, 1941. Following his enlistment Ed graduated from CREI, Washington, DC. He was employed by General Electric Co., E. W. Stone Company, Inc and retired from Monarch Life Insurance Co. Ed was a member of Konosioni Lodge #950, F&AM., Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII, U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc., USS Bumper SS-333 Association, USS Pyro AE-1/AE-24 Association & American Legion Post 1468. Ed was an amateur radio operator (W2EER) and a member of Radio Amateurs of Greater Syracuse & Navy Amateur Radio Association. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor L. (Ennis) and his brother, Hadley Stone. Ed is survived by his children, Robert E. Stone, Lexington, KY, Janet E. Harding, Fayetteville, NY, David C. (Anna Mae) Stone, East Syracuse, NY and Susan M. (David) Zenger, Granger, IN; 6 grandsons, David Harding, Steven Harding, Corey (Nancy) Stone, Gregory Zenger, James (Katrina) Zenger and Jeffrey (Laura) Zenger; 1 granddaughter, Julie (Jordan) Owens; 4 great-granddaughters, 3 great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank our friends at Brookdale Manlius for all of the love and care they provided over the past several years. In addition, they would like to thank the compassionate companions from Touching Hearts at Home. Harding, 86, of Glastonbury, CT and Hebron, NH, beloved husband of Barbara L. Harding for 60 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24. Born June 7, 1938 in DuBois, PA, son of the late S. Ray and Rachael Harding, he lived in Glastonbury for the past 47 years and shared his time in Hebron, NH for the past 25 years. After graduation from high school in New Jersey, he graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in 1958. He worked as a Foreman for Asplundh Tree Expert Company before joining the US Navy Submarine Service in 1961. After graduating from Sub School in Groton, CT, he served in the USS Segundo SS398, a diesel-electric powered submarine, and traveled to various countries including Australia, China, Russia, Korea, Philippine Islands and many islands in the South Pacific. He graduated from the US Navy's Nuclear Power School and served in the USS Ulysses S. Grant SSBN631, a Nuclear Powered Submarine, making various deterrent patrols during the Cold War in the Pacific while operating from Guam. He was then attached to the Fast Attack USS Sargo SSN 583 in Pearl Harbor, and was honorably discharged in 1967. While in the Navy, he married Barbara L. Van Der Beek of Old Tappan, NJ in 1964; a friend, neighbor, and love of his life who joined him in Hawaii and taught school during the years they lived there. Besides his wife, Wayne is survived by their three sons, their wives, and six wonderful grandchildren. Sons and daughters-in-law are Don Harding (Katharine) of New York City, Dave Harding (Judy) of Glastonbury, CT., and Dan Harding (Nicole) of Narragansett, RI. Grandchildren: Reece, Brooke, Molly, Matt, Myles, and Graham Harding. He is also survived by his brother Sam Harding and wife Deborah of Clemson, SC., as well as three brothers-in law and their wives: Bill Van Der Beek (Marcia) of Okatie, SC, Jim Van Der Beek of Oxford, CT, Dave Van Der Beek (Diana) of Okatie, SC, cousins, 15 nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. He was predeceased by two sisters-in-law: Karen Van Der Beek and Melinda Van Der Beek. Following his Navy service, he worked for Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company for 32 years, and attained the title of Assistant Chief Engineer. He retired in 1999. During his HSB career, he, his wife Barbara, and family lived in the states of Washington, Oregon, California, and Missouri, prior to settling in Glastonbury, CT, and working in the Hartford Home Office Engineering Department. Wayne was active with his wife Barbara in the churches they attended, was a member of the Shriners, and a 32nd Degree Mason for the past 53 years. He received various awards as a member of the US Navy Rifle and Pistol team in Pearl Harbor, was a Life Time Member of the Groton, CT Base Submarine Veterans' Club, Submarine Force Holland Club, and a full member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing the waters in Oregon. He loved spending time with his family camping, and cherished the times he and his wife would sail on the lake and travel throughout the U.S. and Europe. Wayne lived a good life. His family and friends remember him as a happy, welcoming, caring, and kind person with an enjoyable sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. He will always be in our hearts. BULLOCK .. .. .. William R. Bullock LUSBY, MD — MSCM(SS) William Robert Bullock (Bob), passed away November 2, 2024, at his home in Lusby, MD after a long battle with Prostate Cancer. Born on February 16th in Milford CT to John Thomas and Roma (Wynkoop) Bullock, Bob was known as Robbie to his friends and family growing up in the Point Beach area of Milford where he attended Joseph A. Foran High School. Master Chief Bullock enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school where he served on board the USS Richard B. Russell (SSN687), USS Billfish (SSN676), and the USS Annapolis (SSN760). During his 24 years of service, he was also assigned to the Navy Recruiting District Albany, New York, Naval Submarine Support Facility Groton Connecticut, Naval Air Station Sigonella Sicily Italy, Naval Station Annapolis Maryland, and the Supply Corps Community Manager Bureau of Naval Personnel Arlington Virginia. After transferring to the Fleet Reserve, he worked at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington DC until 2002. He married Dina (Sbardella) Bullock on April 7, 1994, in Valletta, Malta while they were stationed at NAS Sigonella. Bob enjoyed being a father to his stepdaughters Angela and Sara, he especially loved the opportunity to be a stay-at-home parent when his son John was born and while he grew up. Bob kept his hands busy by spending time volunteering at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and School, SMILE Ecumenical Ministries, Inc. thrift store/food pantry, renovating his mid nineteenth century home, Cub Scout Leader, Soccer Coach, carpentry, golfing, traveling in the RV, and last but not least the privilege to feed the Mount St. Mary’s University Rugby Team for over 4 years. Bob is survived by his wife, Dina; son, John of Lusby; stepdaughters, Angela of MO and Sara of TX; uncle, Chipper Wynkoop; mother-in-law, Dolores Sbardella; brother in-laws, Dennis, Daniel, and Dominic III Sbardella; 7 grandsons; a niece, and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Roma; sister, Darlene Bullock; aunt, Shirley Simpson; uncles, Donald Wynkoop, Douglas Wynkoop, Ronald Wynkoop, Michael Wynkoop, and Johnny Ott, and father-in-law, Dominic Sbardella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11 AM in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Solomons, MD, with calling hours starting at 10 AM at the church. A Memorial Mass will also be held at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven VT at a later date. Bob will be interred with full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea School -Scholarship Fund. The family wishes to thank the Staff at the Calvert Health Oncology, Hospice of the Chesapeake and Rausch Funeral Home for their kindness and support. PRITCHARD .. .. .. Charles L. Pritchard Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Brother BILLERICA — Charles L. Pritchard, age 81, beloved husband of Kathleen L. (Welch) Pritchard, died Saturday at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with his family at his side. He was born in Wichita, KS, April 23, 1935, a son of the late James and LaVerne (Hall) Pritchard and was raised in Kansas City, MO. having moved to Billerica in 1965. Mr. Pritchard proudly served in the U.S. Navy having sailed on both the USS Greenfish and later the USS Abraham Lincoln Ballistic Missile Submarine. He was employed as a Technical Writer for Lockheed Martin for 30 years having retired in 1998. After retirement, he worked at O’Connor Hardware in Billerica. He was an active communicant of St. Theresa Church and was involved in their RCIA program and a member of the Billerica Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife, Mr. Pritchard is survived by his sons, Michael Pritchard and his wife, Kimberly of Lawrence, Thomas Pritchard and his wife, Holly of Westford, and James Pritchard and his husband, Steven of Billerica; his daughters, Michelle Travis and her husband, Sean of Wilmot, NH, and Lisa Ayn Ayres and her husband, Walter of Kinston, NC; his sisters, Barbara Jones of CA, and Delilah Wagner of MO.
