Jack Duane Pinckert Sr. Obituary (01/30/38-10/26/24) Jack Duane Pinckert Sr., known to friends as "Texas Jack" or "Sailor Jack", passed from this life on October 26, 2024, in Springhill, Florida at the age of 86, after fighting several health problems. Born in Hereford, Texas on January 30, 1938, Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Donald and Juanita (Nee. McGuinness) Pinckert, a sister, Anita Pinckert, and a brother, Richard Earl Pinckert. Jack leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Diane (Nee. Barstow) (FL), a brother, Donald Lee Pinckert (FL), three daughters, Jacquline Botto (TX.), Sandra Jefferson (Mark) (TX), Leslie Wilkerson (Scott) (TX), and a son, Jack Pinckert Jr. (Regina) (KY). Jack leaves behind nine grandchildren, Ryan Jefferson (TX), Luke Jefferson (TX), Ian Harlow (TX), Elizabeth Hebert (Matt) (NC), Kathryn Botto (DC), Abigail Botto (VA), Tiffani Thrace (Scotland), Olivia Pinckert (KY), and Liam "Alex" Pinckert (KY). Jack also leaves behind five great grandchildren, Skylynn Jefferson (TX), Aden Harlow (TX), Guinivere Hebert (NC), Lillian Hebert (NC), and Madison Harlow (TX). Jack Served in the United States Navy for 21 years, retiring in 1974 as a Chief Missile Technician. His last four years he was Chief of the main gate in Groton, CT. When Jack made Chief, he had the distinction of being the youngest chief in the Navy at that time. Jack Started as a sonar tech on a destroyer, but then went into submarines, as it was $50 more a month for hazardous duty. Jack served on diesel submarines but was also privileged to be serving aboard the USS Triton (Nuclear Submarine) on her shakedown cruise in 1960, being the first vessel to execute a submerged circumnavigation of the Earth in "Operation Sandblast." After retiring from the Navy Jack's love of the sea, having always said he always thought there was more water than in a trough, led him to become a professional lobsterman. Jack, Marilyn, and Jack Jr. sailed out of Niantic, CT. for four years lobstering, fishing, crabbing and gathering bay scallops. Jack was a man's man, but also had a soft spot for family and friends. While lobstering he would allow Jack Jr. to pick a lobster pot and the catch would be his allowance. However, he often let Jack Jr. select another pot if the one he picked was empty or had little in it. Jack eventually decided that lobstering was not going to pay the bills and went to work for Electric Boat in Groton, CT. building submarines for the Navy. Sadly, after only a year, there were layoffs, and Jack was one of the ones laid off. This turned out for the good as Jack then took a job with General Electric in Pittsfield, MA. Moving his family there, Jack would be part of the technical team writing training manuals for the guidance systems of nuclear missiles aboard nuclear submarines and contracted to the Navy. Jack remained there as it became Martin Marietta, and then Lockheed-Martin, retiring in 1997 after 19 years. Jack had a love for banjos and began collecting after Marilyn bought him a Banjo Ukulele at a flea market. Jack would become an accomplished 5 string banjo picker and at the time had the third largest private collection of pre 1900 banjos. It was selling this collection that would allow Jack and Marilyn to move to Florida, buying a home and property there. MAHER .. .. .. William Charles Maher, III (Bill/Billy), died on the morning of October 29, 2024, in Metairie, Louisiana just three days before his 76th birthday after a two-year struggle with Dementia . Billy was born in Houston, Texas on November 1, 1948, the son of the late William Charles Maher, Jr. and Mary Louise Price Maher. He is survived by his son, Stephen P. Maher, his former wife, Lynn Gomez Maher, and his siblings, Patrick A. Maher, Dorothy J. Maher, Mary K. Maher and Martha J. Maher and several nephews and great-nephews. Billy was preceded in death by his oldest son, William C. Maher, IV, who passed away in 2013. Billy graduated in 1967 in the first graduating class of John F. Kennedy High School then immediately entered the U.S. Navy. He served active duty on the nuclear submarine, USS Simon Bolivar, until 1970, then spent three more years in the Naval Reserves. After his active duty with the Navy, Billy became a Licensed Stationary Engineer and worked at various locations in Houston, Dallas, and New Orleans. He retired two years ago from Place St. Charles in New Orleans. No services are planned at this time. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 2036 Pine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70118. | ||
