Plankowner Posts: 5024 Location: Gulfport, MS | Subject: Catchup & Monday Obits BOLEN, Gilbert J., 71, of Boise, ID, passed away peacefully in his sleep August 16, 2016 of natural causes at the family cabin; the place he loved the most. Joe, the eldest of 7 children, was born August 27, 1944 in Grand Island, NE to Gilbert L and Marjorie Jean Bolen. Joe was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks, NE. He attended Clarks High School participating in basketball, track, and football where he was an All American- graduating in the class of 1962. After a logging stint in Colorado, he served in the US Navy from 1963 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. Joe held the rank of E-5 where he became an Electronic Technician and served 7 patrols on nuclear submarines. He was very proud of his contribution to his country. On December 27, 1965, Joe married Marlene Janky at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, NE and celebrated their 50th anniversary this last year. They raised six children with three boys and three girls - the Bolen Bunch. After the Navy, Joe moved west to Utah with his family, working for a large electrical manufacturer as a salesman. After four years, he found himself in Boise, ID continuing the salesman role. In 1982, during a market downturn and no jobs available, he started his own electrical distributorship- and against all odds it succeeded. At age 58, Joe retired from Bolen's Control House, Inc in 2002. Joe is survived by his wife, Marlene; 6 children (all in Boise area): Tom (Cyndi) Bolen, Theresa (Joe) Altamirano, Anita (Roger) Smith, Denise (Matt) Bolen-Harrington, Joey (Tara) Bolen, and Shane (Lorie) Bolen; 13 grandkids; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings: Kathe Kohl of Fullerton, NE, Peggy (Chris) Blake of Camdenton, MO, Janice Bolen of Lyons, NE, Jeff (Fondra) Bolen, Basil Bolen, and Jim (Vicki) Bolen,all of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Jean; his brother, Douglas; and sister-in-law, Mary Clare. Buried at Cloverdale Cemetery, Boise. Published in Idaho Statesman on Aug. 20, 2016 OWENS, Lewis Henry, 83, passed away on August 16, 2016. He was born October 11, 1932 in Bartow, FL to William Owens and Marguerite Gaskins Owens. Buck graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1951. He was on the football team, Letterman's Club, class treasurer, went to Boy's State, was art editor of the yearbook, and voted 'Best All Around.' After graduation he joined the Navy and served 4 years, most of which was on a submarine in Japan. After his honorable discharge he worked with Firestone, Goodyear, and Bradford Oil Co. In 1974 he opened Haven Engraving and Awards. He was a member of First Christian Church. Buck was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Kelly Renee Coolidge. He is survived by his wife, Sharron Griner Owens; son, Mike (Tonia); daughter, Stephanie (Joe); four grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and a sister Mona Weeks. Published in Ledger Aug. 19, 2016 VOLLMER, Frank Alvin , Jr., 46, of Silverdale, Wash., passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle, Wash. He was born Jan. 7, 1970, in Pittsfield, Ill., a son of Frank Sr. and Lyn Scranton Vollmer. He graduated from Barry High School in 1988 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. He served for the next 20 years and retired with honor in 2008. During his career, he had the privilege of serving on many different bases and submarines around the world. He spent 13-plus years of his career on sea service. Frank continued to serve the community after retirement. He was a member of Fleet Reserve No. 29 in Bremmerton, Wash., as well as a member of the American Legion. Frank was an avid motorcycle rider and rode in many bike rallies and fundraisers to raise money for various charities. He is survived by his father Frank Vollmer Sr.; four daughters, Makia (Zach) Raboin, Tessa Vollmer, Wesley Vollmer and Francesca "Frankie" Vollmer; one granddaughter, Naveah Davidson; two sisters, Laura (Jeremy) Damon and Kathy Vollmer; and Michelle Williams, his best friend and the mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lyn Vollmer. Burial will be in Taylor-Martin Cemetery; El Dara, IL. STREICHERT, Emil Paul, 79, longtime resident of Spring Valley, passed on August 18, 2016. Born October 10, 1936 in New York City to the late Emil Richard and Laura Didier Streichert, Paul was a member of IBEW Local Union #3 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. He was a life member of the Hillcrest Fire Department for 56 years, holding many positions, including President, Captain of the Fire Police, President of the Rockland County Fire Museum, and President of the Fire Police Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1600 and the Groton Submariner Base. He married the love of his life Carol Dec on August 24, 1957. He is survived by his wife and seven children, Laura Streichert (Chris Roberts), Kristina Cousins (Norman), Karen Streichert, Jeffrey Streichert (Loretta), Richard Streichert (Lisa), Paul Streichert (Meg), and David Streichert (Vickie); 15 grandchildren; and great-grandson Marshall. FLEISCHMAN, Russell (n), 90, of Naples, FL, died July 23, 2016 at Naples Community Hospital. Russell was a proud U S Navy submariner during WWII [CSD-82, Drum, Proetus]. He was born December 2, 1925. He was born July 28, 1925 to Myrle and VeLoy Bateman Allsop. He was drafted during his senior year of High School and served in the U.S. Navy, submarine duty, during World War II [AT&RC#5, Tuna, CSD-221, Griffin]. He qualified in submarines in USS Tuna (SS-203) in 1945 and was MoMMFN(SS) when released by the Navy in 1945. He retired after 32 years from Mt. Bell as a Marketing Representative. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Payne, while on leave, August 11, 1944. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS temple on September 25, 1950. They just celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. They are the proud parents of 4 children, Sandra Ramirez, Craig, David (Debbie), and Steven. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie; his loving family; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Ernie was born in Deming, NM, on March 12, 1947, to Ernest and Manuela Bueno Wood. He is survived by his wife, Susan, of the family home, his sons Christopher, Dwayne (Laura), Ernie Jr. (Nicole) all of Las Cruces, Brian Stammer (Theresa) of Albuquerque, his daughter Bernadette, his sister Deborah Wood, and Dolores R. Wood, the mother of his children. Ernie served honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and was proud of his time in the submarine service. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Nellie; his maternal and paternal grandparents; his daughter Jessica, his grandson Armando, and his in-laws, George and Lupe Stammer. He will be missed by his 15 grandchildren, 3 step-grandsons, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was the husband of the late Rita (O'Neill) Bukala [died 8/5/2005]. Born in Lowell on October 19, 1927, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Stipula) Bukala. He was educated at St. Stanislaus Parochial School, Lowell Trade School and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Mr. Bukala enlisted with the United States Navy during World War II and served aboard the submarine, USS Amberjack (SS-522). He received an Honorable Discharge in 1948, and reenlisted during the Korean War serving aboard the submarine, USS Halfbeak (SS-352), being Honorably Discharged in 1953. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bukala was employed for over 35 years by IBM of Boston. Following retirement, he was employed by the Lowell Sun for several years. During the Lowell Folk Festival he could be seen making perogies with his friends from the Holy Trinity Parish. He enjoyed family vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee, New York and Washington, D.C. Ed was treasured by his children, John Bukala and his wife Debbie of Lowell, James Bukala and his wife Betty of Hudson, NH and David Bukala and his significant other, Heather Lindberg of Lowell, with whom he made his home. He was cherished by his 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Edwin is also survived by two sisters and their spouses, Anna and Ted Szczechura of Dracut and Dolores and Robert Boulanger of Laconia, NH; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Bukala of CA. He was a brother of the late John, Ted, Stephen, Jack and Edward Bukala. Dick was born January 20, 1926 in Spring City, PA to the late Leighton F. and Clara (nee Shellenberger) Hacker, and graduated from the Spring City High School in 1943 as class president. He served in the Amphibious Force from April 1944 to June 1946 attaining the rate of RM2c, and remained in the United States Naval Reserve. He graduated in 1949 from Millersville State Teachers College, PA, and was the Editor-in-Chief of the college newspaper "Snapper". Was the Printing teacher at Langley Junior High School, Washington, DC from September 1949 to June 1951. In 1949, he was commissioned an Ensign, and in June 1951 entered active duty in the U.S. Navy on the submarine, USS Halfbeak (SS-352) until August 1953. He served as the Printing teacher at Jefferson Junior High School, Washington, DC from September 1953 to June 1956. He entered the Federal Civil Service at the Naval Gun Factory in September 1953, served in the NASA Headquarters from 1958 to 1968; then the Department of Health and Human Services where he was the Director of Departmental Labor Relations, and retired January 1982. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a LCDR in 1975. After he retired from the civil service, was self-employed as an arbitrator and grievance examiner. He was a clerk with the Sears Regional Office until 1992, and then did sales for Gutter Covers of Maryland. He was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Washington, DC, the church of Theodore Roosevelt in the Nation''s Capital, and was a former president of the consistory. After nine decades he converted to Catholicism and is a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, Rockville, Maryland. He was married to Ruth Alice Fallon of Danville, PA for more than 64 years, had two sons, John (Mary) and Brian (Linda), three grandchildren, Jessica Trivizas (Andrew), Tracy, Michelle, and two great grandsons, Demetri and Xavier Trivizas; all of whom are survivors. He is the brother of Leighton C. Hacker, Audubon, PA and the late Ruth Moore. He was born in Steiermark, Austria, son of the late Frank and Gisella Lederer, on November 11, 1921. Frank spent 30 years in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard 13 submarines as a torpedoman. He enlisted in 1940, and retired in 1970 with a rating of TM1(SS) [S-35, CSD-52, Pampanito, CSD-202, Whale, Sea Poacher, Bumper, Archerfish]. He qualified in submarines in USS S-35 (SS-140) in 1942 and was TM1(SS) when he retired from the Navy in 1970. After retiring from the Navy, Frank worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was also a life member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rembardt Lederer, and sisters, Hilda Smith and Josephine Bauer. Frank is survived by his brothers, William Lederer, California; and Leroy Lederer, Arizona; and a sister, Stella Coyle, Dallas. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Mercy Center. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the service on Wednesday.
