Retired U.S. Navy Senior Master Chief Robert Allen Pleau, 61, of the 1200 block of Kingsway Drive (Chesapeake), died after a courageous battle with cancer, Feb. 24, 2001, in the Veterans Hospital, Hampton, Va. Senior Master Chief Pleau was a native of Boston, Mass., the son of the late Robert and Mary Alfaretta Ross Pleau. He had been a resident of Chesapeake since 1972. He was a retired warrant officer 2 and a former senior master chief in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force with 20 years of service to his country. He was a Navy veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He was also a retired program systems engineer. He was a graduate of George Washington University and was a member of the United States Submarine Veterans, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Master Mason of the South Norfolk Masonic Lodge No. 339, Scottish Rite Bodies and a member of Khedive Temple AAONS. Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Margaret R. Pleau of Chesapeake; two daughters, Michelle P. Spruill and her husband Billy, Cindy P. Jones and her husband Clay, all of Chesapeake; a sister, Sandra Clerkin and her husband Bill of Hanson, Mass; grandchildren, Anna and Alison Jones, step-grandchildren Hannah Myers and her husband Terry and Billy Spruill and his wife Donna, Weston Spruill and Sarah Spruill; great-grandchildren, T.J. and Abbey Myers; and a host of loving family and friends. A chapel service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Chesapeake Chapel, by the Rev. Michael Jones. Burial with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, c/o Khedive Temple, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
