When I was a Second Class A-Ganger on the USS Drum (SSN 677) in the late 70's, we were out on weekly ops. I had the AOW and stopped into sonar to see what was happening. The Sonar Sup said "Watch this". He turned off the input to the Cons sonar display and counted to 15 and then turned it back on. Sure enough, LT. Weaver, who had the OOD, called in "Sonar Con, My display went away and came back. What happened?" The Sonar Sup answered back "Con Sonar, Water Bubble Barrier". After a slight hesitation the OOD answered "Sonar Con aye".
Everybody in sonar was rolling.
